About me

Buongiorno! mi chiamo Francesca Gray. This is my blog that i’ve created to reflect and document my assignments, research and any other general work that I produce within my course, Photographic Journalism, that I am currently studying at Leeds Metropolitan University.

I studied Fine Art as a National Diploma and Photography as an A level at Cleveland College of Art and Design. It was during my time there that I began to appreciate photography more and found that Documentary Photography was the type of photography that I enjoy most and tend to focus my work around.

At the moment, the equipment I am using is a Canon EOS D1000 DSLR to take the majority of my photographs, as this is the same equipment I used when studying photography at college, so I feel comfortable using it. I would, however like to expand on my knowledge regarding what equipment would be best for me to use in the field of work I am aiming towards.

The people who inspire me differ in regards to what I am photographing.
My main inspiration and one of my favourite photographers is Arthur Fellig the renowned crime scene photographer and photojournalist during the 1930’s and 40’s (also known as Weegee, a nickname given to him, as he was always at the scene of the crime before any officials, rendering people to believe that he used a Ouija board to contact the dead and find out where the latest crime had happened, this of course was just gossip, and the true means of Fellig getting to the crime scene first was by use of the police radio that he kept in his car and listened too.)  I like his ability to capture images in a professional manner, but still manage to make them almost artistic in the sense of cropping and positioning.

I wish to achieve the best grades I can get whilst at University, so I can pursue a career in photojournalism, whether it be working for a company, or working for myself, as I feel journalism is becoming a very independent practice, as more and more companies are moving online.
